Hello,

Lately i have seen alot of different money making strategies, and to be honest i dont really like the "go grind 1 zillion mobs and hope for a epix" or "level a rogue - mc equip him, and solo some boss"
This is the method ive been using to make cash! And alot and fast. Since i play on a server with 15 MC guilds, and 10'ish BWL / NAX guilds, i have been profiting alot of being one of the only makers of the infamous "Dark Iron" items.

For a list of items:

http://thottbot.com/?s=dark+iron

What i do, is i have made both a post on our un-official forum, and our official forum - offering my services, and since alot of people know who i am… they come to me when they need DI items.
The whole great thing, is i have one day each week, where i go to BRD and solo my way to the black anvil (I use reckless :D) and make allmost 20 items (depends ofc and **** :D)
Each item i charge 75g just to craft, since the other guy got enough cash on his hands, and he only crafts for his guild.

Conclution:

This can and will be very profitable, and it is.. atleast to me. Another thing is that to some people grinding TB rep to get theese sweets is in itself alot of hard work, but then again. Very profitable!

This is a guide ment for the people able to craft theese items, and to thoose who dont see the endless possibilities. The best thing is that there is on each realm, alot of new guilds forming, needing hunter/pally/warrior FR items, and for myself i got 303 FR (not even tank)… I sometimes make 25-30 items in a week, and sometimes i dont make anything in 1-2 months.

Remember: This is a guide for thoose who dont see the profit in helping/crafting Dark Iron items for other guilds/people

I can’t find the original source, and I don’t know who the original author is for this guide, as it was made for recruits and newer priests in the guild Restless, EU DarkSorrow (Horde)

All credits goes to who ever actually made it.

All hail!

****************************************************************************************

while in combat, as many know the BWL and AQ fights last much longer than an average 8k Mana pool, and so we must keep our mana flowing in order to keep our tanks and dps alive.
This is written as simple as possible, keeping it both short and detailed for any kind of player, both casual and hardcore alike.

What can we use:

Cooldown Set 1

Combat mana potion: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.]<a href="http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item." target="_blank">http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=18841</a>
Restore 900-1500 Mana per use. Cost 10s Each
50s for 4500 to 7500 mana is money well spent.
(2 Minute Cooldown)

Superior mana potion: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=13443
Restore 900-1500 Mana per use. These can be bought from AH, drops from mobs 45-55 quite easily too. Also these can be crafted by guild alchemists.
2x Sungrass, 2x Blindweed, 1x Crystal Vial.
(2 Minute Cooldown)

Major Mana Potions: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=13444
Restore 1350-2250 Mana per use. These again can be bought from the AH from around 10-15g, or grinded mobs 55+. Silithus cultists are the best to grind for these potions.

Again, these can be crafted by guild Alchemists. 2x Icecap, 3x Dreamfoil, 1x Crystal Vial.
(2 Minute Cooldown)

Dreamless Sleep Potion: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=12190
Places the caster in a state of sleep for 12 seconds, during which time the caster heals 1200 health and mana. These can again be purchased via the AH or crafted via Alchemy.
Alchemy: 3x Purple Lotus, 1x Crystal Vial

Greater Dreamless Sleep Potion: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=20002
Places the caster in a state of sleep for 12 seconds, during which time the caster heals 2100 health and mana. These can again be purchased via the AH or crafted via Alchemy.
Alchemy: 2x Dreamfoil, 1x Golden Sansam, 1x Crystal Vial

Wildvine Potion: http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=9144
Heals 1-1500 Health and Mana when used. These can be purchased via the AH, or crafted via Alchemy.
Alchemy: 1x Wildvine, 1x Purple Lotus, 1x Crystal Vial

Out Of Combat Buff Potions

Mageblood Potions: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=20007
When used grants the caster 12 mana regeneration ever 5 seconds. Effects last for 1 Hour. These can be purchased via the AH, or crafted via Alchemy.
Alchemy: 1x Dreamfoil, 2x Plaguebloom, 1x Crystal Vial

Elixir of the Sages: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=13447
When used grants the caster 18 bonus intellect and spirit for 1 hour. These can be purchased via the AH, or crafted via Alchemy.
Alchemy: 1x Dreamfoil, 2x Plaguebloom, 1x Crystal Vial

Flask of Distilled Wisdom: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=13511
When used grants the caster 2000 bonus mana pool. Effects last for 2 hours and persist through death. However, user may only be under the effect of one flask at the same

time.
Alchemy: 30x Dreamfoil, 10x Icecap, 1x Black Lotus, 1x Crystal Vial

Cooldown set 2

Demonic Rune: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=12662]<a href="http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=12662" target="_blank">http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=12662</a>
Restore 900-1500 Mana at the cost of 600-1000 Life. Runes are saviours! A very good mana boost on a seperate cooldown to mana potions. Must be used at caution when at low hp, however in BWL we should next to never be at low HP. Runes have the chance to crit, double mana return at double the life cost. Also an excellent boost. The trade off is next to un noticed. 900 Mana for 600 life can be renewed on you very easily. These are easily farmed in Felwood from Satyrs at either camp.
(2 Minute Cooldown as of 1.11)

Dark Rune: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=20520
Restore 900-1500 Mana at the cost of 600-1000 Life. Runes are saviours! A very good mana boost on a seperate cooldown to mana potions. Must be used at caution when at low hp, however in BWL we should next to never be at low HP. Runes have the chance to crit, double mana return at double the life cost. Also an excellent boost. The trade off is next

to un noticed. 900 Mana for 600 life can be renewed on you very easily. Dark Runes drop in Scholomance, which can be farmed. If a PUG is looking for a healer, give up your time and strike a bargain you will go on the condition all runes are yours.
(2 Minute Cooldown as of 1.11)

Night Dragon's Breath: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=11952
Restores 394-456 mana AND 394-456 Life. Night Dragons can be farmed very easily from Felwood.
Requires:Cenarion Beaconhttp://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=11511 - Explanation below.
(2 Minute Cooldown as of 1.11)

Character and Weapon Buff Consumables

Minor Mana Oil: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=20745
When applied to weapon restores 4 mana every 5 seconds. Each batch created contains 5 charges. Effects last 30 minutes.
Requires; Enchanting: 3x Soul Dust, 2x Maple Seed, 1x Leaded Vial.

Lesser Mana Oil: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=20747
When applied to weapon restores 8 mana every 5 seconds. Each batch created contains 5 charges. Effects last 30 minutes.
Enchanting: 3x Dream Dust, 2x Purple Lotus, 1x Crystal Vial

Brilliant Mana Oil: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=20748
When applied to weapon restores 12 mana every 5 seconds. Each batch created contains 5 charges. Effects last 30 minutes.
Enchanting: 2x Large Brilliant Shard, 3x Purple Lotus, 1x Imbued Vial

Sagefish Delight: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=21217
Requires cooking. Caster must remain seated for at least 10 seconds while consuming this item, after which he will receive the "well fed" buff, and be greanted 6 mana every 5

seconds. Effects last 15 minutes.
Cooking: 1x Raw Greater Sagefish, 1x Hot Spices

Nightfin Soup: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=13931
Requires cooking, Caster must remain seated for at least 10 seconds while consuming this item, after which he will receive the "well fed" buff and be granted 8 mana every 5

seconds. Effects last 10 minutes.
Cooking: 1x Raw Nightfin Snapper, 1x Refreshing Spring Water

Gathering Night Dragon's Breath
There are 4 Plants scattered around Felwood, each with a 25 minute cooldown before they can be farmed again. Each farm per plant will give you 4-7 Night Dragons. In my opinion, 2000-3500 mana restoration for free is something that cannot be missed. However, plants will Despawn from time to time, and if not cleansed, must be cleansed before

farming commences.
See: Cleansing Felwood http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=4102 , for information on obtaining your Cenarion Beacon - http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.

html?witem=11511
This works in the similar fashion to the Argent Dawn commisions. Upon collecting the various hand in's, you can return them in exchange for plant salves. These will cleanse the

Night Dragons for you. The great thing about farming these hand in's is they fall from all mobs in felwood.
This is great if you are also farming Demonic Rune; http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=12662
To make the farming of Night Dragon's even easier, I suggest you download Felwood Gatherer:
http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-2446-1-felwoodgather.htm
This displays your cooldowns, and alerts you at 5 minute and 1 minute Intervals when the plants will spawn. You must farm the plant to begin a succesful countdown.

First off, I will not give you levelling locations, everyone has their own preferences, this guide is to show you how to manage your Mana and how to efficiently level the priest with as few downtimes as possible.

Bags:
Your first priority should be to get more bag space. You do not want to be running back every 30 minutes to empty your bags. And you will need the gold!

You can get Herb a bag or two, these wonderful bags can only hold herbs but are bigger than other bags. Personally I seldom have more than 10 stacks of herbs in my bag, and when I do I’m usually about to return to a city / inn where I can either put everything in my bank or mail it to a carrier toon. On the other hand if placed in a bank slot a herb bag is advantageous if you are planning on going for Alchemy.
(thanks to Huka for pointing this one out)

Auction House (AH) and Gold:
Auction house is a great way to loose your hard earned cash! Keep in mind that most people will be checking the AH between 18:30 and 20:00. There are also many more people online on a Friday evening than a Monday evening. Knowing this, put your auctions up at about 18:00 for the shortest amount of time (2 hours). It will usually get sold and you don’t pay that much on commissions. Yes, the AH takes money for selling your items. The AH takes a deposit when you put an item in, the longer an auction is up the more you pay, you will be refunded this deposit if the item is sold, if not you loose the deposit. If you don’t sell an item after having put it up 2-3 times, sell it to the NPC.

Sell anything green in the AH, leave the start bid as it is, put the buyout to about 30% - 50% more than the start price for green items. Blue and purple items have their own price range, if you are unsure what the item is worth ask in your guild or check wow.allakhazam.com or www.thottbot.com. These give a rough indication of the price range. The prices indicated are probably not what the items sell for on your server, but it gives you a range.

Professions:
At level 5 you can learn 2 professions. I would strongly suggest herbalism and skinning. High level herbs and leather sell well on the AH. Ores stack up to 10, Herbs up to 20. When mining you will pick up one ore at a time, mining for 3 seconds every time, then you will need to smelt the ore into bars, this takes another 3 seconds. Herbs get picked several at a time, the maximum I saw was 4, usually it will be one or two or three herbs at a time. Do not get herbalism and mining! You can have only one tracker active at any given time.

DO NOT start a profession that produces something (alchemy, tailoring, etc…) until at least level 40! If you start training anything else than a gathering profession you will spend a lot of gold on recipes, gold that you will need for your mount. Only if you have good equipment, enough gold for your mount, start levelling earlier if you want.

Equipment:
Start to check the AH really early for a wand! GET A WAND! DON’T THINK JUST DO IT! I made the mistake of levelling without a wand and only casting up to level 13. I never was more frustrated! MOBs delaying my cast times, bringing my health down so that I had to heal, using even more Mana. I needed to rest after every MOB. When I got a wand my levelling sped up by a factor of 6. Therefore, GET A WAND! Why not a staff? You will be getting a 25% damage bonus to wands later on. No staff can match that for DPS. Also, Wands count as Magic damage, which ignores armour. Staves are melee damage where armour gets factored in, therefore lowering your DPS.

As we are on the subject of wands, try to get a Shadow wand once you are close to getting Shadowform. Shadow wands never proc the following talents:

- stun effect of the Blackout talent
- heal effect of Vampiric Embrace talent
- damage bonus from the Darkness talent

(Thanks to MPS_Cowboy for this information)

Where shadow wands are affected is the 15% damage boost from Shadowform.

Wands have one big advantage and one big disadvantage. The advantage is that they cannot be delayed. The disadvantage is that they have a global cooldown on all your abilities.

What stats are better, Intelligence or Spirit? Here the opinions part. While having a large Mana pool is important, so is regeneration. The more mana you have, the more spells you can throw at a MOB, or the more you can heal without resting. The more spirit you have, the faster you regenerate Mana, although the returns on spirit are minimal, anything helps. Although it may cost you some silver, you can always boost your mana regeneration by drinking. Personally I prefer spirit gear, most prefer intelligence gear.

I found this thread in the Blizzard Forums that has some very good information concerning Intelligence / Spirit / MP5 equipment. http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-priest&t=755875&p=1&tmp=1#post755875

At level 44 buy a few stacks of Elixir of the Sages. This wonderful potion gives you +18 Intelligence and Spirit for one hour. Any boost is good!

In short, spend that hard earned gold! Keep enough to buy yourself a mount at level 40 though.

Bandages. Bandages are always good to have. As a priest you have the advantage that most bandages will fill your health to 100%. Use bandages, not spells to fill your health, it may cost you something, but you reduce your downtime due to lack of Mana.

Talents:
Ah yes, talents. At level 10 you will be able to spend your first talent point.

Here is the order in which I suggest to spend talent points:

Shadow:
1. Spirit Tap 5/5 (5 points)
2. Shadow Focus 5/5 (5 points)
3. Mind Flay 1/1 (1 point)
4. Improved Shadow Word Pain 2/2 (2 points)
5. Improved Mind Blast 2/5 (2 points)
6. Shadow Reach 3/3 (3 points)
7. Shadow Weaving 5/5 (5 points)
8. Improved Mind Blast 3/5 (1 point)
9. Vampiric Embrace 1/1 (1 point)
10. Darkness 5/5 (5 points)
11. Shadowform 1/1 (1 point)
12. Improved Psychic Scream 2/2 (2 points)
13. Silence 1/1 (1 point)
14. Improved Mind Blast 4/5 (1 point)

Discipline:
15. Wand Specialisation 5/5 (5 points)

To fill the above you will need level 49.

The key to this is that you want to maximise your damage output as quickly as possible. Silence is a skill that I found to be very useful against casters. It is very annoying to have a MOB down to 10% and he heals himself to 90%. It is also useful against casters that make a lot of damage. A break of 4 seconds is a huge damage reduction for casters.

Some of you will notice that Blackout is not in this build. You might say that 10% stun is not bad, and allows you to get a head start. The Proc only counts on spell casts, not on DoTs. Your Shadow Word Pain has only one chance of triggering the stun. Also, it is annoying if this procs at maximum Shadow Range when the MOB is not in range for the Mind Flay. With the above build you will hardly take damage unless you pull 2 or 3 mobs at the same time.

Picking a fight:
Unfortunately every MOB is different, there is no “one way fits all” method of killing MOBS. Some have more health than others, requiring you to recast to finish the MOB, others have an insane amount of Shadow resist that not even a wand who does shadow damage is much help. You want to bundle your casts then have a long pause between casting. This is because when you cast, your Mana does not regenerate. If you stop casting and shoot your wand, after 5 seconds your mana begins to regenerate. If you cast, shoot wand, cast, you will delay the Mana regeneration.

This is the sequence I used against 95% of the MOBS, if needed I will throw in another cast, a silence, or only use spells to bring a MOB down. The below method however defines a way to conserve Mana, regenerate Mana and be able to fight MOBs without interruption.

1. Shield
2. Mind Blast
3. Shadow Word Pain
4. Mind Flay
5. Mind Blast (not always – see below)
6. Shoot wand until MOB is dead

Using this sequence against MOBs 2 levels above me brings me to the point where the last tick of Shadow Word Pain kills the MOB (or the MOB is very close to death), I have regenerated my mana without having to drink, the MOB made once or twice damage on me (rest was absorbed by the shield) and I can move on to the next MOB.

Without using the last Mind Blast, I will end up having a plus on Mana, allowing me to regenerate Mana over several MOBs. Using the last Mind Blast allows me to kill a MOB quickly. Reducing my Mana a bit more.

Consider that the faster you kill a MOB, the more inefficient your Shadow Word Pain will be. If you kill a MOB in 10 seconds, you will not only have used over half your Mana, you will also have to stop and drink after the second MOB. Unless you always have a friendly Mage nearby who gives you water, you will be spending a lot of gold on buying water. I can think of many ways I’d rather spend my hard earned gold as on water.

You will level a little faster if you kill a MOB only with spells, but consider the costs of the water you will need. Personally, I can spare the extra few seconds per MOB if I at the end can buy myself better equipment. The most cost / time efficient is if you manage the delicate balance of killing MOBS versus Mana regeneration.

Questing:
Red quests have the highest XP reward. Green the lowest, grey give no experience.

Take all available quests in an area. Read what the quest requires, bundle the quests together. Complete several quests at one time, you can always return them later. Keep levelling or do another quest while you are in the area. Do not return to the NPC who gave you the quest after every single quest, it’s a waste of time.

Consider also if the quest is worth doing. There is a quest from Everlook that requires you to go to Un’Goro and Gadgetzan then back to Everlook. The trip takes about 30 minutes, for about 5000 XP. Sure, you get a cute mechanical Yeti for it which helps you fight, but in the same time I make well over 15’000 XP unrested.

Keep Quests in your book until you are sure you will not return to the area, or you need the space or they turned grey.

Questing in a group:
This is only advantageous if you all do quests that are red! You will get the most experience out of these.

The time to complete these quests will be greatly reduced. Avoid collection quests when in a group when everyone has to absolve the same quest. If everyone needs 100 termites (Quest from Western Plaguelands) and you are in a 5 man group, you will be in the area a very long time.

Questing alone:
Excluding elite quests, most yellow quests you can solo. They give good XP and sometimes very good rewards. Some orange quests you can solo, on very rare occasions you can solo red quests.

Try to hand in quests when they are yellow or above, this gives a lot more XP than if they are green.

Instances:
There are 2 classes that make or break an instance run. Warriors and priests.

As a priest you will be often asked if you want to go to an instance. I have even been asked to go to the sunken temple when I was in Winterspring. If you want to go into an instance and have a warrior, you will probably find other people to join you.

Levelling in instances is another way to get XP and much better equipment. Depending on your level and rested status, you will get a good portion of XP per MOB. Elite MOBs give a lot more XP than normal MOBs. Run a few raids before reaching level 60 (even if you are shadow skilled) and improve your equipment.

Thanks to:
MPS_Cowboy
Huka
megachirops

EDIT NOTES:
- stack size changes of ores that came with the latest patch
- Clarified AH Comisions and Deposits

So, you want to be the Emeril Lugassi of WoW. Follow this little write up and you will be hollering BAM in no time.

Fishing and Cooking go hand in hand. You can get your cooking skill from zero to 300 in a matter of days if you start out post level 40 (level required to get the artisan cooking quest), and already have a high enough fishing skill to support it. Just stay on the orange recipes and upgrade your cookbook regularly and you will hit 300 cooking skill in no time. You can also do this with minimal cost. You will have to pay for the recipes and whatever ingredients needed to cook them. Most fish, however, can be cooked with no needed ingredients. All you need is a fire, any fire, of any color. Almost every camp I went to had a fire of some sort that could be used for cooking. No, you can’t use torches.

When you read through the rest of this write up, you will have to keep something in mind. I use a fishing bot. Whether you do or don’t agree with botting is not an issue that I care to take up. This write up is for getting your cooking skill up by using what you get from fishing, regardless of how you get your fish.

You can get the fishing bot I use here: http://www.multiplayerstrategies.com/ms/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=27044&categoryid=20

Here is another one: http://www.multiplayerstrategies.com/ms/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=27824&categoryid=20

You can get some info on fishing quests and skill npc’s here: http://www.multiplayerstrategies.com/ms/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=29299&categoryid=20

Ok, first you need to get some recipes. Please pay attention to faction notes. The list goes in order from easiest to hardest, and with consideration given to the fishing skill needed to get it. There is an enormous mix of fish caught in different areas, so it is nearly impossible to list them all with an area breakdown. You can raise your fishing skill by 20 if you want to go loot crab traps right next to Shadowprey Village in Desolace. Here is the pole: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=2950

I would recommend filling your bags with enough recipes to get you all the way to level 300. When you hit level 225 in cooking and are level 40 you can head to Gadgetzan and do the quest that allows you to get to level 300. WARNING: The quest was bugged back when I did it. I was able to raise my skill above 225 after doing it, but some people could not. So fair warning, I don’t know if it is still bugged or not.

That quest is here: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=6610 It is for both Alliance and Horde.

Ok Back to the fishing. Master list: http://www.thotbott.com/?t=Cooking or http://wow.allakhazam.com/dyn/skills/skillline185.html

Easy to catch and cook: Skill format is learned/green/trivial.

Slither Skin Mackerel: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=735 1/45/85

Brilliant Smallfish: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=394 1/45/85

Rainbow Fin Albacore: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=2086 50/80/130

Longjaw Mud Snapper: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=734 50/80/130

Deviate Fish: THE COOLEST FISH EVER!!! : http://www.thotbott.com/?i=4710 85/125/165. Be sure to stock up on this one for hours and hours of fun. You will have to spend some money on ingredients to cook it though.

Bristle Whisker Catfish: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=733 100/140/180

Mithril Head Trout: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=Mithril%20Head%20Trout 175/215/255

Redgill: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=10072 225/265/305

Spotted Yellowtail: http://www.thotbott.com/?i=730 225/265/305

Here is some stuff you get from fishing that will provide some stats when cooked:

Grilled Squid (10 Agility): http://www.thotbott.com/?i=10066

Glossy Mightfish (10 Stamina): http://www.thotbott.com/?i=5184

Summer Bass (10 Spirit): http://www.thotbott.com/?i=10076

Nightfin Snapper (8 mana/ 5seconds): http://www.thotbott.com/?i=5766

Sunscale Salmon (6 health/5 seconds): http://www.thotbott.com/?i=10334

While fishing you will catch various things that don’t cook but will either sell in the AH or you can use towards your tradeskills. Firefin Snapper, Oily Blackmouth, and Stonescale Eel are all used in Alchemy and sell decently in the AH. Black Pearls, Iridescent Pearls, and Gold Pearls sell good and are looted from various clams. Remember, this is just an added benefit, so don’t ever think that fishing will make you rich by selling what you catch.

From a Shammy/Warlock 2 boxer perspective.

As taken from Merriam-Webster. Definition 5 hits it on the head.

Farming (not to be confused with Grinding)

Main Entry: 2farm
Function: verb
transitive senses
1 obsolete : RENT
2 : to collect and take the fees or profits of (an occupation or business) on payment of a fixed sum
3 : to give up (as an estate or a business) to another on condition of receiving in return a fixed sum
4 a : to devote to agriculture b : to manage and cultivate as a farm c : to grow or cultivate in quantity
intransitive senses : to engage in raising crops, animals, or fish
5 : to pillage/plunder a particular honey spot in a MMORPG in such a manner that maximises a player's income and/or personal wardrobe.
IE: Dude!! We raped that lewt farm last night. I must have made 20 gold in just a few hours.

Ok, yes, I added #5 myself. It should have been there though. Those dictionary puds don't keep up with the times.

I was talking in guild chat the other day about farming a certain spot when someone asked, "What is farming?"

Huh?

Basically, you just head to a spot that you know is good for mobs dropping easily sold items that rake in the cash. I have a few spots that work really well for this, but are level dependent. As most of you already know, WoW farming is tons different than Everquest farming was. The mobs in WoW can (and will) still kick your ass even though you are 20 levels ahead of them. So don't think you are just going to walk into a place 20 levels your inferior and get the same result as you would playing Doom in god mode. There are no BFGs to be had here.

So, where are some of these honey spots? I have a few. It really depends on what I want to farm. This is all based on either a level 41 shaman (skinning/leathercraft) and/or 41 warlock (skinning/tailoring). Both have about the same kill/min ratio. I like to 2 box, but in some areas, it is a pain in the ass. If you 2 box and don't have a duplicate skill on both characters, you will make more dough than I do.

Tailoring supplies: For linen, the humans south and around The Sepulcher have a pretty high drop rate for linen. You can sell a stack of it for around 20-30 silver in the AH. Great for raising an alt's tailoring or first aid skill fast. Also mass producing 6 slot bags are decent income. It takes about a silver to produce and you can sell them to vendors for 2.

Wool drops pretty well from any humanoid above level 15, but I found the humans on the road heading to Hillsbrad from Sepulcher to be better than most. They are average level 18-20 and casters (low hp so you can kill them faster and you resist most everything). They respawn faster than the waiters at Applebee's (though not quite as friendly) so you will always have stuff to kill.

Silk is a pain. It never seems to drop fast enough. The Azureload Mine seems to be about the best I have found. Levels are around 25ish. Tons and tons of mobs, fast respawn, and high drop rate. Add to that the mobs drop silver about half of the time. This was a great place to get exp and farm at the same time. You have to be on your toes though. Easy to get gang raped in there.

You can also kill the humans around Dalomar. From level 30-35 you can sit here and make tons of cash and get quite a few tailoring skill points. They also drop the occasional Mageweave. Maybe 1/15.

Skinning: Again, from Undercity all the way to Tarren Mills, it is made for skinning. Once you get to level 30, north of Tarren Mills, you can easily make 4 levels and an assload of cash skinning the Yeti, both the brown and white ones. (I am pro-affirmative action, if I killed 1 brown one, I went and killed 40 white ones. Not really.)

Once you get to level 33ish, an alternate to Yetis and Humans around Dalomar are the Arathi Highlands. Ther are lots of roaming mobs for skinnning and human outposts for tailoring. Get xp while you do it. Just find a zone wall or one of the human camps and tear em up.

I generally go for mobs at or a few levels below my level. It seems to maximize and balance the intake of xp and lewt. There are better spots to be had, but either the run time to get there, or the recovery time for dying has made me pass on them. I tend to be lazy, but in a smart sort of way. Heh.

MONEY FROM INTERMEDIATE MINING (AND BLACKSMITHING)

This is a guide for leveling in mining (and blacksmithing) in order to get to the point where you can make some serious gold in the game. Let me just start off by saying that there are many ways to make gold from the mining and/or blacksmithing profession and you can certainly use this as a starting point for developing other methods. However, this guide will focus on getting you to mining level 125 and blacksmithing level 75. This guide will assume that you keep up with the training from the respective trainer to obtain the abilities discussed below.

MINING BACKGROUND

Mining consist of finding metal veins, collecting ore, and then smelting that ore into bars. A miner gets the ability to smelt and/or mine various metals at various levels. You can smelt the following metals at the following levels:

Mining Level 1: Copper
Mining Level 65: Tin
Mining Level 65: Bronze (1 bronze bar = 1 copper bar + 1 tin bar)
Mining Level 75: Silver
Mining Level 125: Iron
Mining Level 155: Gold
Mining Level 165: Steel (1 steel bar = 1 iron bar + 1 coal)
Mining Level 175: Mithril

All of the above metals will produce one bar of the metal for one piece of ore when smelted. You can frequently get 4-5 pieces of ore from a single vein. There are other metals (truesilver and thorium) that can make you a TON of money, but I haven’t reached those levels yet so I will wait until I can develop a strategy for them before updating this guide.

Along with the metal, you also get various stones and gems from the veins, shown below:

- Copper veins: Rough Stones, Malachite, Shadowgem, Tigerseye
- Tin Veins: Coarse Stones, Jade, Lesser Moonstone, Moss Agate, Shadowgem
- Silver Vein: Lesser Moonstone, Moss Agate, Shadowgem
- Iron Veins: Heavy Stones, Aquamarine, Citrine, Jade, Lesser Moonstone
- Gold Veins: Jade, Lesser Moonstone
- Mithril Veins: Solid Stone

So, as you can see, you will be collecting a lot of “stuff” from mining. The only thing directly useable by you is the ore as a miner. Everything else is used by blacksmiths and some other professions in some cases. Therefore, I chose to also become a blacksmith. As you will see, there is definitely money making synergy, even if you don’t you’re your blacksmithing products to other players.

MINING STRATEGY

First, as you will see above, you will only be able to mine and smelt copper until level 65. Luckily, you will get mining xp from both mining AND smelting for most, if not all, of this time. Therefore, clear out as much space as you can in your inventory and go to a lower level area. Just hunt around the foot hills for copper veins and collect ore, stones and gems until your inventory is full. I would go to the easiest area you can find so you don’t have to worry about mobs that much. For instance, see here for a map of copper veins in Elwynn Forest, near Stormwind. http://www.thottbot.com/?m=1108

Everything stacks so you will have a lot of material when you are full. In my inventory, I typically have 40 open slots (with my backpack full of other stuff and four 10 slot bags open. Theoretically you can fill each slot of the 40 with ore, stones and gems. If you do this, when you are done, you will probably have something like 3 slots of gems, 17 slots of ore and 20 slots of rough stone. It all depends on the drop rate of stone, but this is probably about right as the stone drops 2-3 sometimes and the ore typically drops one at a time. Your mileage may vary. You should note that, when smelting you will need at least one slot open for the bars to go into – as you use up the ore, it will open up another slot.

Once you are done, go to your local forge and just smelt away to make copper bars. At this point, without blacksmithing, just sell the bars, stone, gems either at auction or at vendor and rinse and repeat. The bars only sell for 10 copper and the stone only sells for 2 copper each.

BETTER STRATEGY: SYNERGY WITH BLACKSMITHING

Here’s where you can begin to see the synergy that blacksmithing can add. First, unless you really need the money from selling the gems, I would suggest banking them – they sell for good money to a vendor, typically, but you will definitely need them for armor and weapons later. Ore and stones are easy to get, gems are not since the drop rate is somewhat low. I would also save a good amount of the rough stone since blacksmiths will be able to make rough grinding stones at level 25, which are necessary for some blacksmithing plans. However, this is up to you. At level 25, making rough grinding stones is an excellent way to level.

And here is a key point: as a blacksmith, you should only make things that don’t use a lot of resources and, at the same time, are the highest difficulty available (orange, yellow, green is the order of difficulty). If you run out of orange, yellow is OK, but you won’t level as quickly. Green is very inefficient. Eventually things will “grey” out and won’t give you xp. Note that you will always get one level for each thing you make that is orange in difficulty, regardless how many resources it requires. Therefore, for leveling it don’t use gems to make something when you could get the same level by just using copper.

Therefore, I suggest you use the copper bars as a blacksmith to make copper chain pants ( see http://www.thottbot.com/?i=272 ). You can make copper chain pants from level 1 and they only require 4 copper bars. So, now for the synergy: copper chain pants sell to vendors for 67 copper – so with a little more effort, you can make 67 copper instead of 40 copper from just selling the four bars (a 68% profit difference). Keep making these pants out of copper bars until you reach level 25. I don’t remember how many pants it takes to get to level 25, but assuming it is about 35 or so, that would be about 140 iron ore, or 7 stacks.

You will get other recipes but all of them require additional resources. The only thing I would consider is making copper boots at level 20. These require 8 copper bars and no other resources. However, you will lose profit by making them – 8 copper bars would sell for 80 copper to a vendor and the boots only sell for 49 copper. However, they will also give you more xp than the pants at level 20. This minimal loss is enough to get you to level 25, which is where you can make rough grinding stones. Rough grinding stones sell to a vendor for 5 copper, while the rough stones only sell for 2 copper (a 150% profit difference). They will also give you good xp for a while, so just make these until they turn yellow in difficulty.

Note that the above examples assume you will sell the items to a vendor. The pants and boots should definitely go to a vendor since it is not worth selling them at auction. However, the rough grinding stones are in demand because they are required as blacksmithing components. Therefore, you may find it desirable to sell them on auction depending on the market at your server. I don’t have the specifics, but they will almost certainly sell for a decent amount above the vendor. It all depends on how much time you want to take setting up the auctions. I simply sold some to a vendor and kept some for myself.

Now things become a little fuzzy because there are so many options. But here is what I would suggest you use to level:

- Blacksmithing Level 35: Copper Chain Belt – 6 copper bars
- Blacksmithing Level 40: Runed Copper Gauntlets – 8 copper bars, 2 rough grinding stones
- Blacksmithing Level 45: Runed Copper Pants – 8 copper bars, 2 fine thread (buy from tailor vendor), 2 rough grinding stones

Some of this might be inefficient in terms of gaining xp because the difficulty of the item drops eventually, but these are the lowest cost items in terms of resources. Feel free to vary on what you use to level, but try to keep your costs down as much as possible.

At mining level 65, you get the ability to mine tin, which also drops coarse stones. Once again save the gems and coarse stones. After this level of mining is reached, use the following to level in blacksmithing:

Blacksmithing Level 65: Coarse Sharpening Stone – 1 coarse stone
Blacksmithing Level 75: Coarse Grinding Stone – 2 coarse stones

END GOAL OF THIS GUIDE: MINING LEVEL 125, BLACKSMITHING LEVEL 75:

At level 75 in blacksmithing, you get the ability to make Coarse Grinding Stones. As far as mining goes, continue to mine whatever will give you xp (tin, silver, gold, etc). At level 125 in mining, you get the ability to mine/smelt iron. This is where you can make some serious money. Eventually copper and tin will grey out, as will smelting entirely. However, you will still get xp from mining silver, gold and, the goal of this guide in mining: Iron., which you will obtain at level 125 in mining.

And here, finally is where the cash really starts rolling in. Iron bars on my server sell for a buyout of 2 gold per stack and there is not much supply for sale out there. Last night there was one auction with a buyout of 1 gold 75 silver, 4 auctions with a buy out of 2 gold and 1 auction with a buyout of 7 gold (what WAS he thinking lol). Thus, there were only 6 auctions for Iron Bars. Given that I had 8 stacks of 20 iron bars that I had accumulated, I could have made a killing. But I only sold one at 1 gold 75 silver (just for kicks) and it sold very quickly. Therefore, if you are interested in easy money, just mine iron, smelt the bars and sell them at auction. No cost to you at all, other than time!

If you were to just find iron veins and throw away everything but the ore (bad idea because other things are very valuable also), you could fill up each slot in your inventory with 20 ore/bars. Assuming you spent enough time to fill up 40 slots in inventory, at 2 gold per stack this could theoretically net you 80 gold. That’s a lot of mining, but it’s easy money if you can put up with the grind.

Coarse grinding stones can also be sold for a good profit. While I haven’t sold any yet, there are NONE at the auction house right now and I hear people in ironforge frequently requesting them. I have asked myself, just see what the response will be, but no one ever had any for sale. Therefore, this is an untapped market. I will put up an auction tonight for coarse grinding stones and let you know how it goes.

The same strategy above can be extrapolated to heavy stone, mithril (which sells for 5 gold a stack) and other materials. But I have found that iron (iron ore) and tin (coarse stones) are the most plentiful veins in the game after copper. Therefore, I think this is sweet spot for money making.

I have been fishing going on four days now. It was a pain at first, but got easier as I went along. Here is a list of progression. Even though I only did the Horde side, I researched all the Alliance crap too. Paladins cry enough as it is, I didn't want them to feel left out. I am working on cooking skill at the same time. Cooking and fishing, as most of you know, go very well together.

Starting out: Getting your fishing skill.

Horde Fishing (1-150)

Apprentice Fishing(1-75)

Armand Cromwell: In the Undercity. Outer circle, magic quarter, northeast.
Kah Mistrunner: Thunderbluff . Middle plateau, east section.
Lumak: Orgrimmar. Valley of Honor, at the pond.

Now you are set to get to a skill level of 75. You need to buy a fishing pole. Really cheap. If you want, you can buy bobber, lures, and other stuff that will allow you to artificially raise your fishing skill. So take that brand new fishing pole and go find a pond, lake, or ocean. No, your neighbor's swimming pool won't work, redneck.

NOTE: You can't fish in all bodies of water at a low skill. You will have to work your way up to them. If you try and fish in a body of water that is too high level for you, you will get a message saying something to the effect of "Goaway, you suck at fishing. Come back when you don't suck anymore". The best way of guaging whether you can fish or not is by looking around to see what kind of mobs are in the vicinity.

So you have fished your way up in skill. Time to go get that Journeyman rank. Not sure what the minimum skill required is (not too high, like 50), but skill level of 75 is sure to work. You can't go any higher than that anyway until you talk to a trainer.

Armand Cromwell: In the Undercity. Outer circle, magic quarter, northeast.
Kah Mistrunner: Thunderbluff . Middle plateau, east section.
Lumak: Orgrimmar. Valley of Honor, at the pond.

Yes, the same people you went to for your initial skill.

Alliance Fishing (1-150)

Apprentice (1-75)

Arnold Leland: Stormwind
Astaia: Darnassus
Grimnur Stonebrand: Ironforge
Harold Riggs: Wetlands
Matthew Hooper: Redridge Mountains

You goody goodies make me sick. You get 5 trainers. Anyway, get your fishing pole in hand, grab some beer and Cheetos, and lets go fishing. If you want, you can buy bobber, lures, and other stuff that will allow you to artificially raise your fishing skill. This will get you to a skill level of 75.

So, ready for Journeyman yet? No? Then why are you reading this? Get back to fishing!!

Journeyman Fishing (75-150)

Ready now? Ok great. Head back to one of the NPC's listed above. Get your Journeyman title. You can get it at a skill level lower than 75 if you wish, 50 or so. Once you have Journeyman you are set to make it to a skill level of 150.

Alliance/Horde Expert Fishing (150-225)

So you think you have reached Ahab status, eh? Think again.

Once you get high enough in skill, you need to head to Booty Bay and buy a book to get your skill cap raised from 150 to 225.

***EDIT: As stated by Ty in reply, you have to be level 20 and be willing to part with 1g to buy the book.

Go see Old Man Hemming. From him you will buy a copy of "Expert Fishing: The Bass and You". You can buy it whenever you want, but you won't be able to learn it until you have reached the appropriate skill level. It costs around 1 gold 35 silver, depending on your faction arrangement with Booty Bay.

Alliance/Horde Artisan Fishing (>225)

You mad mad slayer of fish you!!! You have managed to get up to skill level 225. Now what? Well now you need to boogy on down to Dustwallow Marsh. There you will find Nat Pagle (Tidefury Cove, on a rock in the bay, a Nat's ass SE of map dead center, HAHA I crack myself up. Nat's ass. Get it?). You must be LEVEL 40 to get the quest.

UPDATE: Nat can be found at 58,59 Tidefury Cove

Pat is going to send you on a quest. He wants you to catch some fish for him. Yes, you have to catch them. No, you can't buy them, you lazy bastard.

Nat says:
Can't say I really enjoy fishin' much. Figure I been at it for a good 20 or 30 years now. I reckon people are driven to do what they do for different reasons. Now, I'm not saying you need to fish for 30 years or catch every fish in the sea to become a master fisherman. I reckon you just need to be determined - determined enough to sit on your duff for hours at a time, doin' nothin'. I'll tell you what, catch me a few rare fish and I'll teach you a thing or two. Here's a list:
Misty Reed Mahi Mahi from the Misty Reed Strand in the Swamp of Sorrows.

A Sar'theris Striker from the Sar'theris Strand in Desolace.

Feralas Ahi from the Verdantis River of Feralas.

Savage Coast Blue Sailfin from the Savage Coast of Stranglethorn Vale.

Go get all that stuff, take it back to Nat, and POOF!!!, you are uber. Now go catch some fish.

As many of you know, fishing and cooking go well together just like mining and blacksmithing. If you do it right you can save yourself a boat load of time and energy. Seeing as theres a tutorial about fishing from around 125-300 and cooking from 125-300 i thought it would only make sense to help people out by making one from 1-125.

To start out, youll need to get the two skills fishing and cooking http://thottbot.com/?s=fishing+trainer For fishing trainers everywhere, and http://thottbot.com/?s=cooking+trainer cooking trainers everywhere.

Now, youll want to begin by fishing in low level areas such as ice flow lake, in dun morogh. youll be catching longjaw snappers and brilliant smallfish, you can sell these because you wont be needing them, continue fishing in these low level areas untill you reach lvl 75 in fishing, then train in journeyman fishing and its time to move on…

The next place to go is the Westfall Lighthouse which is on the south west shoreline
http://i72.thottbot.com/en/Interface/WorldMap/Westfall/Westfallbig.jpg

Here you will be catching Slitherskin Mackerel and Rainbow Fin Albicore (also some bottles with scrolls in them, which are always useful)

And this is where cooking starts to come into play

Before you leave sentinel hill to go to the lighthouse, visit the quater master and get yourself some wood and flint to bulid a fire or two. Once you get to the light house (which if your a lower level is still easy to get to, not many agros to avoid) look to the south, there is peir there with a man on it (Kriggon Talsone) He sells recipies for Both of the fish youll be catching.

Catching the amount of fish youll need to bring your cooking skill up to 75 then 125 will be a bit of a challenge if you plan to do it all by hand, using a bot is a good idea but, you use them at your own risk. Once youve caught enough to fill half of or backpack, or more, your ready to start cooking, youll want to start with the Slitherskins to get you to level 75 from there, its rainbowfin to 125.

This is where my tutorial ends, but before i do, a note:
If you plan on going past 125, going to Render's Valley in the redridge mountians is a good place to start fishing again. its a 100% drop of Briskle Whisker Catfish, these will bring up your fishing skill, and if you go to stormwind and buy the recipe from the local fisherman you can use these to cook your way past 125.

I hope this tutorial helps all who read it

Thanks, Musicfreak266 (musicfreak226)

Some have asked:

“What is the fastest way to grind X profession?”

I have a rather novel answer; the fastest way to grind any crafting profession is to wait until your level 40. Here’s why:

1. At lower levels you don’t have the resources to power thru anything. Yes you can gather a little ore, herbs and leather as your questing along and then you can use those resources to grind your way up to level 110 or so in your crafting profession… but you will soon find that you come to a screeching halt because you will either need resources that are beyond your skill to acquire or beyond your ability to procure them and survive. You will also find that most of the items you can make at the sub-artisan level are not worth the resources you created them with. You end up in a vicious cycle of questing to make money to grind a profession that is doing you no good – very inefficient.

2. You can’t train artisan until level 35, and Goodness knows you should be saving your pennies for your mount, it will change your life – seriously it will. Yes I know many players have alts and can fully fund their own grinding materials or have guilds that will provide them. But, you will come to a screeching halt when your level 10 dude cant train expert or your 20 dude is stuck at 225, the gateway to crafting greatness, for 15 more levels and cant train artisan. Here are the ranks for future reference:

Apprentice (1-75) Level 5
Journeyman (50-150) Level 10
Expert (125-225) Level 20
Artisan (200-300) Level 35

IMHO, lower level characters (level 40 and below) should concentrate all their efforts on questing, grinding and upgrading their equipment from the surplus of excellent, low priced gear on the Auction House or just using the quest rewards which are just fine for lower level combat. Sell everything and spend it on training and gear.

Ok Mr. Crafting genius, what should I do then?

I’m so glad you asked. At around level 30 I would pick up two gathering professions, skinning and mining or skinning and herbalism. Don’t try herbs and mining together because you can’t have both trackers running at the same time. Try to also decide what crafting profession you want to do so you know what to save and what to sell. For example, if you take herbs and skinning and you know you want to be an alchemist then bank the herbs and sell the leather. You should also do some homework, head for thottbot.com and look at the recipes and patterns listed there. Some are really easy and only require as little as one resource. Others are more complex and require multiple resources and sometimes crafted items from other professions. The trick is finding the low requirement items so you can level quickly and efficiently.

Now, you will have to spend maybe an hour (or two at the most) in a noob area (Elwynn Forest, Dun Morough or what ever that depressing Night Elf area is called) gathering low level stuff, but it will be easy because nothing in those areas can hurt you and you can quickly level up to 150 in both your gathering skills and you can bank full stacks of resources in preparation for the crafting skill you will pick up at level 40 or you can sell the stuff to help fund your level40 mount.

As you continue to grind thru your 30’s you will easily max your gathering skills simply by gathering stuff as you quest along. You will also learn where the resources you need spawn. The Gatherer mod leaves little icons on both the mini-map and the big map every time you harvest something, it makes for easy “harvesting runs” when you need to re-stock your stores. I highly recommend it.

When you finally hit level 40, you’re fully trained in your class skills and you have purchased your mount; you are now ready for a crafting profession. Drop the gathering skill that doesn’t correspond to your chosen crafting profession and go train novice. Run to the bank, grab your stockpiled resources and head back to the skill trainer. Depending on how much you gathered and how well you did your homework, you can now power thru your crafting profession. Use thottbot to find higher level trainers. You will slow down again at artisan level (225) but since your level 40+ now you are much better equipped to either go get the stuff you need to continue your ascent or raise the cash to buy your grinding supplies off the auction house. A few runs thru SM or an hour or two in Arathi will net you all you need to grind your way to the top of your profession.

But I want to be an Enchanter:

No problem, follow the same method. Above with the following changes:

At level 30 you will train herbalism and enchanting. Herbalism is going to be a supplemental cash source for you, sell everything you gather and disenchant every magic item you find that you can’t use yourself. Bank all the dusts, essences and shards you disenchant and don’t get tempted to start leveling your skills yet. Remember to combine the lesser essences into greater ones for storage purposes. IIRC you can level up to 100 just from disenchanting items, don’t smack me if I’m wrong about this it may only be 50. At level 40, you will clear out your bank and go train as high as you can with what you gathered in your 30’s. I suggest you buy (or save from your travels) a cheap bracer, 1h weapon, 2h hand weapon, shield and chest piece; keep them in your bank. These will be what you practice your chants on. From here you have a few options:

1. You can head to the the highest instance you can handle solo and hunt green items to disenchant – time consuming, but you should get xp and continue to level your class skills.
2. Buy enchanting supplies off the AH, expensive but faster
3. Be a leech and drain your guild mates dry, God knows they don’t need money or equipment to furter their adventuring and fund their mounts. Maybe one day you can pay them back with free chants – right! Every guild chanter I ever saw turned into a greedy bastige once he got high enough level to do me any good. It was either “I’m not chanting until I make level 35 because I won’t level” or “I’m broke at the moment so I can’t chant for free, I gotta charge you full price.” If you do leech, then don’t be a greedy bastige… return the graciousness you were shown even if it costs you a little. There is nothing better than calling out for help and getting 4 mates say… I’m there bud!

But, I wanna be a tailor! I live to sew!

You may say, “why should I wait?” Why shouldn’t I get started right away? Well, if you just have to start now, then be my guest but consider this. On my server:

Linen cloth sells for 25-35s/stack
Wool cloth sells for 40-70s/stack
Silk sells for around 50s/stack

That’s darn good money, especially for level 30’s and below. Your not going to make any money selling linen and wool bags in a developed economy (new servers are another story.) If you want to make bags you will be lucky to get 35s for a 10 slot small silk pack and there is no way your going make more than 40s for a stack worth of wool bags (your results may vary, don’t flame me with your whacked servers prices.) Just sell the tons and tons of cloth you will gather on your journey to level 40. Even better, make bandages! First aid is a great skill to have – it costs next to nothing to skill up in and you can’t have too many healing options in WoW. Did I mention cooking? Oh, ill save that for another day. Wait till level 40, buy what you need to grind away the lower levels and then go hunt humanoids to get the mageweave and runecloth you need to make your sewing fantasies a reality. Oh and watch a lot of HGTV while you play, lots of handy sewing tips for you there too you tailor pansy!

Ok this is my opinion, its what I wish I would have done. It’s what I will do for my baby warlock (who will be an engineer) and my baby druid (who will be a leatherworker – whip it good!). If you feel differently, then get out there and show the world your crafting prowess (chicks dig crafters!)
